CT 287L - Workshop: Author Studies K-8 Curriculum
Children’s literature of Latin America and the Caribbean: literature-based curriculum for monolingual and bilingual classrooms K-8. The course will introduce and examine contemporary children’s literature–picture books, transitional books, poetry, and young adult novels–that reflect the rich and diverse cultures of the students in our schools from Caribbean and Latin-American backgrounds. Language arts and social studies curriculum will be cooperatively developed around this literature. Theories of multicultural literature will also be explored. The course will include an author visit and recommended but optional attendance/presentation at the 13th Annual Common Ground Learning Conference in Montego Bay, Jamaica, June 22-25, 2007). The course is designed for recently certified undergraduate elementary and secondary students and in-service teachers.
