LAW 2929 - International Transactions: Commercial Paper in the Paperless Age


This course will introduce students to the fundamentals of commercial paper still widely used in the United States and throughout the world, despite the arrival of the “paperless society.”  The course will cover common law concepts of negotiability and holdership (including due course status), as well as systems for settlement of checks between banks.  Next it will explore the law governing commercial paper utilized for payment of goods moving in international commerce, including documents of title, sight drafts, and letters of credit.  Finally the course will familiarize the students with common electronic payment media, particularly in ecommerce, both within the United States and internationally.
