LAW 2867 - Independent Study
Independent Study Projects may be arranged in specialized areas of the law or particularly advanced subject areas. Although we cannot guarantee satisfaction of every student request, there are two types of Independent Study Projects for which a student may apply: (1) individual student research under the direction of a regular full-time faculty member (including visiting faculty); and (2) research by a group of students under the direction of a regular full-time faculty member (including visiting faculty). In all cases a written proposal must be submitted detailing the intended research, and the written permission of the faculty member must be obtained before the project is begun. Projects exceeding three credits also require approval by the Dean’s Office. The amount of credit to be awarded for the research (two to six credits) is determined by the supervisor of the project based upon the scope and complexity of the project. No more than 2 credits of Independent Study may be approved for work to be conducted during the summer session. Note that the Court of Appeals requires a minimum of 10 classroom hours per week; students electing Independent Study must take this into account.
