PHYS 012A: (NS) General Physics

Semester Hours: 4


The second semester of a two-semester sequence covering the fundamental laws and principles of mechanics, heat, sound, light, electricity and magnetism, with an emphasis on sound, light, electricity and magnetism.

 

Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes:
Most students with AP credit for physics typically start in PHYS 014F or PHYS 12A. Students with AP credit should seek advice from the Department of Physics and Astronomy before registering. Prerequisite: PHYS 011A, MATH 071. Pre- or corequisites: MATH 072. Engineering students are exempt from taking 012B, with approval of adviser. Students must take 012B concurrently unless credit has already been received for the equivalent. 12A applies toward the natural science distribution requirement only upon successful completion of the corresponding laboratory course 012B.
