LAW 2968 - Lawyers Ethics Seminar


This seminar will provide in-depth analysis of basic topics in lawyers’ ethics, including the role of the lawyer in an adversary system, professional ethics and personal morality, the allocation of decision-making between lawyer and client, zealous representation, lawyer-client trust and confidence, conflicts of interest, preparing and examining witnesses, client perjury, prosecutors’ ethics, judicial ethics, and solicitation of clients. Readings will include rules and standards of professional conduct, case law, and legal scholarship.  Class discussion will be based in part on these materials and on excerpts from film and television clips that dramatize the ethical issues.  Each student will choose whether to take a final exam or to write a paper to satisfy Writing Requirement I or II.

Pre-Req: None.

Note: This course does satisfy the professional responsibility graduation requirement.
