LAW 3818 - Veterans’ Legal Assistance Externship

This specialized externship is designed to provide students exposure to the range of legal issues typically confronted by veterans. Students will be expected to attend a weekly seminar that will cover a broad range of legal topics relating to the representation of veterans. Students accepted into the course must secure in advance a field placement that is approved by the Law School. Field placements must provide the student the opportunity to work under the close supervision of a practicing lawyer who is engaged in one or more pro bono matters on behalf of veterans, and who has agreed to comply with the educational requirements and objectives of the course. Students will apply what they learn in the classroom by performing a minimum of 12 hours of field work each week over the course of the 14-week semester, engaging in weekly supervision meetings, and submitting regular reflective assignments for the classroom component, including a final paper stemming from the experience in the field placement.
