Mission Statement

We provide accountancy students with the knowledge and technical skills necessary to become successful professionals in a rapidly changing business environment. We strive to expose our learners to current and emerging technologies to enable them to adapt to continuous technological developments to help them succeed in their careers. We strive to provide our learners with various professional networking opportunities. We also strive for excellence in teaching and research and encourage interaction with the community and business.

Student Advisement & Guidance

Our department provides students with guidance and support to pursue CPA licensure through our programs noted below. Students enrolled in our various accounting programs can obtain specialized advisement for course sequencing to ensure timely graduation, CPA licensure pathways, CPA exam registration and studying, and internship and career opportunities.   Students planning to obtain CPA licenses in states other than New York should review individual state requirements.

We highly suggest accounting students at all levels (freshman to graduate studies) seek advisement to ensure they are on the right track for their desired accounting career. To request advisement, please contact Professor Imani Brown at Imani.Brown@hofstra.edu.

CPA Program Options for Students Interested in CPA Licensure

Several programs are registered with the New York State Education Department as licensure-qualifying 150 programs. See below for a listing of our programs that prepare students for CPA licensure and satisfy the New York State educational requirements for the CPA license.

  • Accounting, MS  or Taxation, MS : Students who have completed a BBA in Accounting or another area of business who would like to obtain specialized knowledge in Accounting or Taxation may pursue either of these graduate programs to meet their remaining educational requirements at the graduate level.
  • Business Administration Concentration in Accounting, MBA : Students who have completed a BBA in Accounting or another area of business who would like to develop their core business competencies further to prepare for managerial positions in various types of organizations may pursue this graduate program to complete their remaining educational requirements at the graduate level.
  • Accelerated Programs : Matriculated students within Hofstra University may enroll in one of our Accelerated Programs to satisfy the educational licensure requirements at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
