Minor Requirements - Total Semester Hours: 18
The concentration of Latin American and Caribbean Studies consists of the completion of a total of 18 s.h. distributed as follows: 1. Language Requirement
The student must fulfill the University language requirement in Spanish, Portuguese,
or French, or demonstrate equivalent competency in one of those languages. 2. Primary Courses - Semester Hours: 9
9 s.h. of primary courses listed, with at least one course from each of the three
categories: Category I: Economics and Geography
Category II: Literatures and Cultures
Category III: History and Political Sciences
3. Elective and Comparative Courses
6 s.h. of elective or comparative courses listed, with no more than 3 s.h. in comparative
courses.

Note: Specialized courses are those marked with an asterisk (*). In addition to the list, special topics courses (e.g., HIST 177, GEOG 106, SPAN 180) and independent studies/readings may be included in the major or minor when covering Latin American and Caribbean themes, pending approbal of program director(s).
