Associate Professor Puerzer, Graduate Program Director, (516) 463-6019

In successful companies, the professional staff includes not only experts in engineering and experts in management, but also experts in the integration of those disciplines. Engineers entrusted with leadership roles will require the knowledge of tools not found in many undergraduate curricula. These include analytical and quantitative tools for decision making, including statistical and operations research techniques. Linked with these topics are issues such as marketing, organizational behavior, and quality. They are ultimately integrated in the study of project management and the management of technological innovation. Course work addressing all these issues will provide engineers with the tools to lead effectively and manage technology within their companies.

The Master of Science in Engineering Management program is designed to provide practicing engineers and specialists in related fields with the requisite skills to advance to management positions and assess and manage new and existing technologies specific to a company’s needs. Successful students earn a master of science degree through the completion of 35 semester hours of course work culminating in an industry-based management project.**

Admission Requirements

Applicants for admission should hold a baccalaureate degree in Engineering from an accredited institution and have professional experience. They must also have an average grade of B or better in their undergraduate work or a satisfactory score on the Graduate Record Examination. The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required of applicants who completed their bachelor’s degree in a country where English is not the official and spoken language. TOEFL scores are valid for two years from the test date. Criteria, which are evaluated in the admissions process, include undergraduate and/or previous graduate work, two letters of recommendation, and a professional resume and/or a summary of accomplishments. Prospective students will be evaluated by the engineering graduate admissions committee, made up of faculty members from the engineering department and practicing engineers from the engineering department’s industrial advisory board.
