Sustainability Studies, B.A. Major in


The B.A. major in sustainability studies focuses on global environmental issues in suburban and urban areas. Specific themes include, but are not limited to: sustainability management and benchmarking, green entrepreneurialism, suburban and urban environments and ecosystems, international development, and community development and planning. Students may develop unique interdisciplinary curricula by selecting electives based on their own interests, in consultation with their sustainability studies adviser.

Program Requirements:


  1. 12 s.h. must be in courses numbered 100 and above. Courses with grades lower than a C- do not count toward the total number of hours required for the sustainability studies major.
  2. At least 15 s.h. must be completed in residence.

B. SBLY, GEOG, or GS Courses - Semester Hours: 6


Select 6 s.h. from the courses listed below. (With permission of the program director, GEOG 104, 151-154, and GS 104, 151-154 may be counted toward the required 6 s.h. of SBLY, GEOG or GS.)

C. Elective Courses - Semester Hours: 15


Select 15 s.h. from the courses listed below. The 15 hours may include courses not previously taken in B above. (With permission of the program director, GEOG 104, 151-154, and GS 104, 151-154 may be counted toward the required 15 s.h. of electives.) NOTE: Prior to taking elective courses, see adviser to develop a course plan. Click on course titles listed below to access course descriptions and check prerequisites, in order to ensure eligibility to enroll and proper completion of academic background courses. Note that not all courses are offered every semester.
