Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

Qualified undergraduate students may elect to enroll in a dual-degree program, combining their undergraduate bachelor’s degree in Mathematics (B.A. or B.S.) with a Master of Business Administration or a Master of Science in Finance. Students admitted to either graduate-level program must complete a minimum of 115 semester hours of undergraduate course work and may substitute up to nine semester hours of graduate-level course work for an equal number of semester hours of undergraduate course work toward the completion of their bachelor’s degree.

Direct admission to the dual-degree programs (B.A. or B.S., and M.B.A. or M.S. in Finance)

Students entering Hofstra as incoming freshmen may apply for direct admission to their selected dual-degree program. Applicants must have a combined SAT score (Critical Reading and Mathematics) of 1170 (or an ACT score of 25) and an overall high school GPA of 3.2 (or be in the top 15 percent of their high school graduating class) in order to be considered for admission. Students admitted directly to a dual-degree program as incoming freshmen will be admitted automatically to the M.B.A. or to the M.S. in Finance program either at the end of their junior year, or after completing 97 semester hours, provided that they fulfill the following requirements:

  1. a score of at least 550 on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) taken before the end of their junior year, or before completion of 97 semester hours of course work;
  2. a cumulative GPA of 3.2 either at the time of application to the M.B.A. or the M.S. in Finance program, or upon completion of 97 semester hours of course work; and
  3. completion of the first three years of the curriculum outlined below for the dual-degree program of their choice.

Admission to the dual-degree programs for current Hofstra students (B.A. or B.S., and M.B.A. or M.S. in Finance)

Qualified Hofstra students majoring in Mathematics (either a B.A. or a B.S.) may apply for admission to a dual-degree program in Mathematics/M.B.A. or Mathematics/M.S. in Finance either in the fall semester of their junior year or after completing 97 semester hours of course work. Students interested in applying to one of the dual-degree programs should note that admission to the M.B.A. or M.S. in Finance portion of the dual-degree program requires fulfillment of the following requirements:

  1. a score of at least 550 on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) taken before the end of their junior year, or before completion of 97 semester hours of course work;
  2. a cumulative GPA of 3.2 either at the time of application to the M.B.A. or the M.S. in Finance program, or upon completion of 97 semester hours of course work;
  3. successful completion of all undergraduate requirements for the B.A. or the B.S. in mathematics, with the exception of the semester hour and major requirements; and
  4. completion of a minimum of 30 semester hours of undergraduate course work in residence at Hofstra.

Note

Undergraduate students must apply and be accepted into either the M.B.A. or the M.S. in Finance program before being allowed to take graduate courses as part of their undergraduate program. Please contact the Zarb School of Business Graduate Programs Office for information.
