Return to Majors and Minors Return to: Majors and Minors

Qualified undergraduate students may elect to enroll in a dual-degree program, combining their undergraduate BA in speech-language-hearing sciences with an MA in speech-language pathology. The dual-degree program requires successful completion of a minimum of 160 semester hours, including at least 108 semester hours at the undergraduate level and 52 semester hours at the graduate level. The dual-degree program can be completed in five and one-half years. Students who are admitted to the MA portion of the dual-degree program may substitute a maximum of 16 semester hours of graduate-level course work for an equal number of semester hours of undergraduate course work toward the completion of their bachelor’s degree.

Direct admission to the dual-degree program (BA and MA)

Students entering Hofstra as incoming first-year students may apply for direct admission to this dual-degree program. Students admitted directly to the dual-degree program as incoming first-year students will be admitted automatically to the MA program at the end of their junior year, provided that they fulfill the following requirements:

  1. Attain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.7.

Qualified Hofstra students majoring in speech-language-hearing sciences may apply for admission to the dual-degree program no later than the fall semester of their sophomore year, or with permission of the graduate program director. Students must also complete all the requirements listed in the “direct admission” entry above.

Once admitted to the graduate program, the student must maintain a minimum graduate GPA of 3.0 in order to remain in the program.
