The Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is made up of the School of the Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts; the School of the Natural Sciences and Mathematics; and the Peter S. Kalikow School of Government, Public Policy and International Affairs. Courses in the liberal arts stress the power of intellectual questioning and discovery, as well as the development of the creative imagination and of clarity of thought and expression. 

Hofstra University’s School of Education prepares teachers, administrators, and professionals in the fields of elementary, secondary, K-12 and higher education at the undergraduate, master’s, advanced certificate, and doctoral levels. Our curriculum reflects contemporary issues in school and society, with multicultural and global perspectives, and provides a sound base for educational theory and practice. Summer offerings are especially suited to working teachers and administrators pursuing advanced degrees.

Hofstra University’s Zarb School of Business is accredited by AACSB International – The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. In addition, the Department of Accounting, Taxation, and Legal Studies in Business has a special accreditation from AACSB International. The Zarb School offers a broad, well-rounded program of study guided by an experienced faculty committed to excellence. Today, numerous Zarb School of Business graduates are leaders of some of the largest corporations in the United States.

The School offers a full range of courses during the summer to enable full-time, part-time, and visiting students to continue their studies year-round. Courses are offered in accounting, finance, general business, information technology, international business, legal studies in business, management, marketing, and quantitative methods. The Lawrence Herbert School of Communication at Hofstra University offers a wide range of courses to meet the challenges of today’s changing world of communication. Students have the opportunity to study with a nationally recognized faculty, and work in one of the largest state-of-the-art, noncommercial broadcast facilities on the east coast. The School is composed of two departments: Radio, Television, Film; and Journalism, Media Studies, and Public Relations. Both departments provides opportunities for personal self-expression, scholarly inquiry, and technical mastery. Within each department students will find a curriculum that explores the theoretical and practical nature of communication. The School offers the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees; a Master of Arts degree in journalism; and a Master of Arts degree in public relations.

The School of Engineering and Applied Science holds accreditations from the Engineering Accreditation Commission and the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET (the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology). The Department of Engineering offers bachelor’s degrees in bioengineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, engineering science, industrial engineering and mechanical engineering. The Department of Computer Science offers bachelor’s degrees in computer science, computer engineering, computer science & cybersecurity, and a dual major with the mathematics department. Graduate MS degrees, both online and on campus, are also available in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, and Engineering Management. The school teaches and encourages leadership, creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship.

All junior level students and above are eligible for a “co-op” experience, where classroom learning is blended with a real-life occupational experience with our partners, lasting for a summer and the proceeding or following semester. Not only does this educational methodology ease the transition from University to work, but the co-op experience also frequently results in an offer of full-time employment upon graduation.

Our faculty are dedicated, committed teachers with strong advisory skills. Both classroom and laboratory courses are deliberately limited in size, creating a pervasive, intimate atmosphere and easy rapport between student peers and our highly qualified faculty. Up to date laboratories support theoretical teaching, and our distinguished faculty constantly update courses as new technological developments ensue. The School’s research involvement is high, and many instructors hold grant awards supporting their investigations.

Bringing together the fields of counseling and behavioral health, speech-language pathology and audiology, public health and health management, and the health sciences and technology, the Hofstra University School of Health Professions and Human Services (HPHS) offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate and programs designed to educate the next generation of practitioners, advocates, managers and health care policymakers. Through partnerships with arts and sciences, medicine, education, engineering, business, communication and law, HPHS provides an interdisciplinary environment where students learn to provide therapeutic and developmental services; prevent, diagnose and treat illness and disabilities; advocate and collaborate on issues relating to social justice and equity; and design, implement, administer and evaluate health promotion programs, policies and systems. The school offers five undergraduate programs (Exercise Science, Athletic Training, Health Science, Community Health, and Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences) that provide students with excellent preparation for work in health care settings and a foundation for graduate study in education and health-related professions. Programs include study in the liberal arts and sciences to develop analytic skills, encourage critical thinking, and foster personal development and engagement in the world.

The mission of the Hofstra University School of Health Professions and Human Services is to educate students in the theory and practices of their specialized area of study, with a strong foundation in the natural, social and behavioral sciences. Through competency based instruction, field experience and research training, students are educated to become effective and compassionate clinicians, evidence-based practitioners, policy makers, managers and advocates who promote health equity.  Students receive clinical education in approaches that maximize occupational, communicative, biological, psychological, social and interpersonal development across the lifespan. Students are prepared to work in settings that include the home, the school, the clinic, the hospital and other health care facilities, the work place, the government and community agencies. The Hofstra Northwell School of Graduate Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies aims to be the global leader in interprofessional education preparing the next generation of advanced practice nurses and physician assistants. The Hofstra Northwell School of Graduate Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies incorporates the diverse academic programs and infrastructure of Hofstra University, as well as the significant clinical activities and educational resources of Northwell Health.

The Hofstra Northwell School of Graduate Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies offers a Master of Science program with a major in Nursing with three tracks: Family Nurse Practitioner, Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, and Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner as well as three advanced certificate programs Family Nurse Practitioner Advanced Certificate, Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Advanced Certificate, and Registered Nurse First Assistant Advanced Certificate.

The School also offers a Master of Science in Cardiovascular Sciences and Perfusion Medicine, a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies and a dual Bachelor of Science/Master of Science in PA studies for first year students.
