Accelerated Programs

Hofstra University offers several accelerated bachelor’s/master’s degrees that are designed to provide highly motivated, qualified students with the opportunity to complete requirements for both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in a shortened time frame. Interested students are encouraged to contact their adviser to learn more.

In addition to saving time, students can realize a monetary saving equivalent to a year of full-time graduate study. Accelerated programs provide an opportunity for students to pursue a rigorous undergraduate curriculum that advances them toward the pursuit of a graduate degree.

Program Standards

  • Students must apply and be admitted to the accelerated degree program. Applicants must have completed a minimum of 60 credits of college course work with a G.P.A of 3.0 or higher in all college course work. The application must include approval by both the department offering the bachelor’s degree and the graduate studies director of the program offering the master’s degree.
  • Students can double count a maximum of 12 credits of graduate courses toward the undergraduate and graduate portion of the accelerated program.
  • Although the university allows undergraduate students enrolled in an accelerated program to use a maximum of 12 graduate credits toward the undergraduate portion of the accelerated degree, the maximum allowance may be less than 12, depending on the specific program.
  • The degrees will be awarded upon completion of the respective requirements for each program. The master’s degree may not be awarded before completion of the undergraduate degree.
  • Undergraduate course credits may not be used to satisfy graduate degree requirements.
  • Department requirements supersede these minimum university standards. Please consult the appropriate department.

Admission Requirements

Interested students should check the criteria for admission into individual programs. In order to be eligible for admission to the graduate portion of the accelerated program, students must fulfill the following admission requirements:

  • Achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.0 at the time of application to the program.
  • Completion of 60 semester hours of coursework toward their undergraduate degree, with a minimum of 30 semester hours of undergraduate coursework completed in residence at Hofstra.
  • Undergraduate students must apply and be accepted into a graduate program before being allowed to take graduate courses as part of their undergraduate program.
