About the School
The Hofstra Northwell School of Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies aims to be the global leader in interprofessional education preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals. The Hofstra Northwell School of Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies incorporates the diverse academic programs and infrastructure of Hofstra University, as well as the significant clinical activities and educational resources of Northwell Health.
The Hofstra Northwell School of Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies offers pathways to several rewarding careers in healthcare including graduate and undergraduate nursing, cardiac perfusion, and physician assistant. The school’s undergraduate nursing program results in a four-year Bachelor of Science with a Major in Nursing program (127 s.h.) degree providing the educational, clinical, and experiential base for entry-level professional practice, as well as the platform on which to build a career through graduate-level study and lifelong learning.
The school’s graduate nursing programs include a Master of Science in three tracks: Family Nurse Practitioner (52 s.h.), Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (52 s.h.) and Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (51 s.h) leading to Master of Science providing educational, clinical, and experiential experience. The school also offers Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program with three tracks: Family Nurse Practitioner (71 s.h.), Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (71 s.h.), and Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (70 s.h.) leading to a Doctor of Nursing practice for each specialty track providing educational, clinical, experiential as an evidence based practice project. The school offers four advanced certificate programs Family Nurse Practitioner Advanced Certificate (25.5 s.h.), Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Advanced Certificate (26.5 s.h.), Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Advanced Certificate (25 s.h.) and Registered Nurse First Assistant Advanced Certificate (6 s.h.). The school further offers the Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) - Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), Doctor of Nursing Practice (97.5 s.h.) program prepares graduates to deliver high-quality, holistic, evidence-based anesthesia, and pain services. All of our graduate programs use evidence-based practice to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care and improve health outcomes
The school offers a Master of Science in Cardiovascular Sciences and Perfusion Medicine (CSPM)(62 s.h.). The CSPM programis a 21-month program integrating didactic and clinical practicum coursework that provides education for an entry-level graduate to achieve a Certificate in Perfusion Clinical Competence and a Master of Science Degree. Our goal is to produce highly skilled, competent, next-generation leaders in the field of cardiovascular science and perfusion medicine. The CSPM program employs an education strategy including VR perfusion training, low and high-fidelity perfusion training, and early placement in high-acuity advanced cardiac centers.
The school offers a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (79 s.h.) that prepares graduates to provide a team-based approach to quality, patient-centered care across every medical and surgical specialty and setting such as surgery, emergency medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, psychiatry, and family medicine. There is also a unique dual Bachelor of Science/Master of Science in PA studies for freshman entry only.
