Admission

Admission General Information

The following students may attend one of Hofstra’s summer sessions:

  1. Re-entering or continuing graduate or undergraduate students in good academic standing;
  2. New fall semester students who have been admitted into a Hofstra degree program and are attending for the first time;
  3. Visiting students from other colleges or universities and certain high school students who will attend for the summer only.

Those undergraduates re-entering Hofstra after a hiatus should contact the Office of Admissions, and re-entering graduate students should contact their Program Director.

New fall undergraduate freshmen and transfers may begin their studies in the summer but must be in touch with the Advisement Office (Memorial Hall, Room 101, (516) 463-6770) for course approval. Registration takes place through the Office of Academic Records (Memorial Hall, second floor, (516) 463-6680). Students who attend summer sessions as visiting students and wish to be considered for matriculated status for the fall or spring semester apply to Hofstra through the Office of Undergraduate Admissions (Bernon Hall, (516) 463-6700) or the Office of Graduate Admissions (Memorial Hall, (516) 463-4723).

Visiting undergraduate students may register by mailing or faxing (only if payment is made by credit card) the completed registration materials in this Bulletin or by visiting the Office of Student Accounts (Memorial Hall, Room 206)
(516) 463-6680, option #3. When faxing, make sure to send the Summer Session Payment Form and both sides of the registration card(s). Fax documents to the Student Accounts Office at (516) 463-4847. Visiting students who intend to transfer Hofstra summer course credit back to their home schools are encouraged to discuss their plans with an academic adviser at their home school prior to enrolling.

High school students who have completed their junior year may attend summer sessions at Hofstra University. Students may register for certain introductory courses for which all prerequisites have been met. It is strongly recommended that high school students discuss their plans in advance with their guidance counselors. High school students apply through the Office of Undergraduate Admissions (Bernon Hall, (516) 463-6700).

Nonmatriculated graduate students may enroll in summer courses with advisement from an appropriate faculty member. The non-matriculated admission process must be initiated at the Office of Graduate Admissions (Memorial Hall, Room 106C, 1-800-HOFSTRA). Students must complete a Graduate Non-matriculated Application (with application fee of $60) and show proof of baccalaureate degree. A maximum of 12 credits is permitted as a non-matriculant.

Notes

Please note that most graduate courses in the Psychology Department are open only to matriculated graduate students in Psychology. Please see the course description section for specific courses that may be available to non-psychology graduate students over the summer. Nonmatriculated graduate students are not permitted to register for any Zarb School of Business graduate courses.

Admission to summer sessions is independent of admission to the fall and spring semesters. Registration in summer session courses does not constitute official acceptance to Hofstra. Students who wish to matriculate into a degree program must apply for admission to the University. Applications may be obtained from the Graduate Office of Admissions by calling (516) 463-4723. You may also request an application form by checking the appropriate box on the summer sessions’ mail-in registration card included in this Bulletin.

For office hours, call the Office of Undergraduate Admissions or the Office of Graduate Admissions (1-800-HOFSTRA).
