ITLT 040 - (LT) Love and Eros in Italian LiteratureSemester Hours: 3 Periodically
The course focuses on love and eros in works of Italian literature in the early modern period and how the treatment of these two themes gives voice to shifting perspectives on sin, virtue, the body, and the soul. Students read recognized masterpieces by male and female authors and explore topics such as romantic love, tragic love, love as caritas, courtly love, neoplatonism, lust, prostitution, pornography, and adultery. All works are read and discussed in English.
