FALL 2020 - Current Offering
RTVF 158 FILM AUTHORSHIP: SAM PECKINPAH & SEAN PENN - Two Maverick Directors
Straddling the fence between violent drama and unabashed sentimentality, both directors, with their singular visions, bravely bucked the systems. Despite cataclysmic studio interference, Peckinpah’s genius shone still in such milestones as THE WILD BUNCH, STRAW DOGS, THE GETAWAY AND PAT GARRET & BILLY THE KID. Sean Penn’s mere handful of films directed arguably eclipses his brilliant acting accomplishments, as suggested by THE INDIAN RUNNER, THE CROSSING GUARD, THE PLEDGE and INTO THE WILD.
This course will explore their unique styles and poetic mise-en-scene as they venture well beyond the pale of the mainstream.
Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes: RTVF 010 . May be repeated for credit when subject matter varies.
