LAW 2969 - Real Time Lawyering: The Temporary Restraining Order


The “Temporary Restraining Order” course requires students to litigate a a motion for a temporary restraining order within the time frame that normally exists in a law firm confronting that type of emergency motion proceeding. The course will replicate three days in a law firm. As a result, the class sessions will extend over the normal 9-5 business day. During this period, students will become “experts” in the substantive and factual issues that will be necessary to the competent application of the skills necessary to competently advise and counsel clients and appear on behalf of their clients in the courtroom. The students will interview and counsel clients, draft moving and responsive motion papers, strategize and negotiate possible resolutions, and represent the clients at a factual hearing on the emergency motion, and engage in oral argument before the Court. It is a 1 credit course that is offered over the course of one weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday).
