Lectures and seminars on special advanced topics in biology. Emphasis is on subjects of the current investigation, the scientific literature, and theoretical and philosophical aspects of research.
Current Special Topics
Immunology
This course is designed as an introduction to the principles of immunology. Students will gain an understanding of how the immune system develops, functions, and establishes memory. Topics will include a broad survey of the cells and organs required for a fully functional immune system. Students will discuss the role of the immune system in preventing infectious disease, development of hypersensitivity, allergy, and autoimmune disorders, and cancer. (3 hours lecture)
Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes: May be repeated for credit when topics vary.
