CRM 096A Manga, Anime, and Modern Japan
This course examines the ways in which Japanese manga and anime represent various issues in Japan’s history and society. Students will analyze, examine, and discuss how major and minor works of manga and anime (and some live-action films) showcase Japanese views of gender, sexuality, social minorities, war, and national identity; and how these representations have been consumed and adopted by a global audience.
