LAW 3607 - Bioethics and Law in Biomedical Research
This course provides an introduction to ethical issues in scientific research, and explores how bioethical and legal approaches manifest in research settings, including basic science, research with animals and research involving human subjects. The course examines such fundamental ethical issues as integrity in research, fraud and misconduct, ethical publication practices, conflicts of interest, the humane use of animal subjects, as well as ethical issues in the use of human subjects in biomedical, socio-behavioral and genetics research. The course explores the different perspectives that legal scholars and bioethicists bring to questions of research ethics through readings from the bioethics and legal literature, and other sources; legal and ethical case studies are used to highlight significant issues in real-world settings.
