LAW 2524 - Estate Administration

This course will cover the substantive and procedural law of administration proceedings for intestate estates, including the disposition of claims filed against an estate and the commencement of certain Miscellaneous proceedings.  Students will draft related pleadings and/or motion papers, including Surrogate Court Petitions, based on hypothetical problems presented in class.  Students will have the opportunity to meet and interact with a Surrogate court judge and members of Surrogate Court staff and administration and will have the opportunity to attend Court calendar calls, conferences with attorneys and litigants who practice in this area, and, if scheduled, hearings and/or trials.  The course will provide an excellent opportunity for students who have an interest in becoming general litigation practitioners, with a particular exposure to Surrogate Court practices in probate and estate administration.  Enrollment will be limited to 15 students and due to the limited enrollment, a preference will be given to students who have completed Wills, Trusts, and Estates.
