CLL 161 - (LT) RenaissanceSemester Hours: 3 Periodically
The Renaissance is a label for a period of enormous transition between the 14th and 17th centuries that saw a rebirth of ancient Greek and Roman culture in the late Middle Ages. The main ingredients of the Renaissance include the revival of humanism, the increased secularization of social life, the cultivation of non-religious arts, the growth of individualism in private as well as public life, the expansion of scientific and philosophical horizons, the creation of new social, political, and economic institutions. In short, it inaugurated a new view of humanity in a comprehensive international landscape. Through closely analyzing literary texts and other cultural documents, this course examines how Renaissance art relates to national and cultural boundaries. It tracks the influence or affinity of works of literature and the ideas they represent across different languages and cultures in Europe.
