RTVF 016 - Television Aesthetics and CriticismSemester Hours: 3 Periodically
An introduction to the critical evaluation of television storytelling modes and strategies. Using cultural and textual analysis, you will learn the tools and concepts needed to aesthetically assess television narratives as seen in classic and contemporary television programming. Through the lens of a range of theoretical frameworks, you will also observe how television is shaped by cultural trends and how it, in turn, influences its audiences. Students are expected to have access to select TV streaming platforms.
Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes: Admission to class by permission of the department. May not be taken on a Pass/D+/D/Fail basis.
Students must have access to select online streaming services for the duration of the course.
