LING 102 - (IS) Semantics and PragmaticsSemester Hours: 3 Periodically
This course focuses on linguistic meaning and its role in communication. Concepts like ambiguity, presupposition, sense relations, conversational implicature, etc., will be applied to real-world language data, including forensic linguistic data such as bribery and threats. Students will also learn how semantic and pragmatic meanings influence our understanding of news articles, memes, social media, and more.
Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes: May not be taken on a Pass/D+/D/Fail basis.
