MASS 126 - Media & Reality: Critical Approaches to Digitally-Mediated RealitySemester Hours: 3 For most of its existence, media have housed snapshots and depictions of reality. This course will explore the current incarnations of mediated depictions of reality with a focus on electronic and digital media. To do this, the class will focus on the ways reality-based social media and popular culture content influence our understanding of identity, culture, and society. Subjects related to postmodernity, telepresence, interpersonal relationships, and self-performance will be covered in an attempt to help students understand the relationship between media, reality, and “reality.”
