NUR 313 - Ethical Foundations & Professional Issues in Healthcare Semester Hours: 3 This course focuses on an advanced practice nurse leadership role in promoting ethical and legal health care. This course prepares the advanced practice nurse with the knowledge and skills to make ethical choices within the context of the health law and medical decision-making frameworks. Ethical decision-making with particular reference to scholarship, social determinants of health, practice-related moral distress, implicit bias, and best practice issues are examined. Students will analyze ethical cases, legal, political, organizational, social, cultural, and financial factors that create ethical challenges in the delivery of care. Contextual ethical issues in past and current historical sentinel legal and clinical cases will be explored.
Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes: Matriculation within the DNP program.
