GEOG 260 - Geographic Information Systems for Graduate Students Semester Hours: 3
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are used to encode, store, analyze, and report geospatial data. This multimedia course provides a broad-based training in GIS, including map-making, performing basic geographic analysis, geographic data management, and dealing with ethical questions faced by GIS practitioners. Doing so involves applying GIS in professional-grade projects involving geocoding, classification, geospatial data editing, spatial reference troubleshooting, and overlay analysis. As such, the course is designed to provide students with a working knowledge of the practices and methods of GIS across a variety of social, environmental, infrastructural, planning, and health fields. Be prepared for hands-on labs and to discuss material in class.
Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes: Prerequisite: Graduate student standing. Undergraduate students should enroll in GEOG 060 and GEOG 160.
