HADM 244 - Population Health Strategies and Management for Health Care Administrators Semester Hours: 3
Health care delivery transformation is necessary to address the dual issue of high health care costs and diminishing returns in health outcomes. Applying population health strategies and management principles are part of the innovative thinking that is needed for creating solutions in how health care is being delivered. According to a study by the Commonwealth Fund, despite the high cost of health care in the US at 17.1% of gross domestic product, Americans had worse health outcomes such as low life expectancy, high infant mortality rates and high prevalence of chronic conditions as compared to other industrialized countries. Today’s system of health care delivery cannot continue in its current state because it is neither sustainable nor beneficial to US society. Comprehensive transformation is vital for substantial health and economic impact.
This course provides students with fundamental knowledge of integrating previously disparate systems into a seamless delivery system to improve the health outcomes of an attributed population as well as improve the distribution of health outcomes. The course seeks to improve students’ ability to identify complicated healthcare delivery challenges and the think outside the box, promote design thinking and create innovative solutions in delivering care.
