TAX 310 - Applied Research Capstone in Digital Tax Technology Semester Hours: 3

This capstone course will focus on practical research and applications of current and emerging technologies in tax. During the semester, guest speakers from taxation and other areas of the accounting profession and academia will make presentations and engage the class in discussions. Students will develop research skills and strengthen their knowledge of current and emerging tax and accounting trends and their impact. The focus of the class will be on applied research relevant to practice. Building on expertise and skillsets learned in prior courses. Students will be able to utilize and strengthen their technology agility and gain a practical understanding of their research by completing several independent hands-on projects using current and emerging technologies. Students will be required to exercise their technological agility by learning a current and emerging technology program and solving one or more projects using this program. The course will also explore the ethical and social impacts of emerging technologies used in the profession. Students will present their findings from various assignments throughout the semester, concluding with a final capstone project.
Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes: Completion of 21 s.h. of graduate coursework in the area of concentration. Open only to matriculated MS in Taxation students or with permission of the Department Chairperson. Credit is given for TAX 310 or ACCT 310 , not both.
