LAW 1600 - Fundamentals of Law

This is a required, non-credit-bearing course intended to help students transition into law school and to provide them with tools needed to succeed. The course contains two parts: Part I of this course is asynchronous. It consists of four online modules, which students will complete prior to arriving on campus. The goal of these online modules is to introduce the rules governing the creation, interpretation, and application of the different forms of law used by American lawyers. Part II of this course will be take place in-person during orientation week. Part II will cover study strategies and test-taking strategies, to ensure that students start off their law career on the right foot. Students will learn how to read and analyze statutes and cases and how to synthesize rules.  Students will also learn about “soft skills,” such as time management and adopting the proper mindset, that are essential to success.
