Designed to meet the needs of individual and specific groups of students interested in special topics not covered by other course offerings. As individual subjects are selected, each is assigned a letter (A-Z) and added to the course number.

Current Special Topics

JRNL 180S - Artificial Intelligence, Communication and Ethics

This interdisciplinary (journalism/philosophy) course explores ethical issues in the uses and impacts of artificial intelligence (AI) (especially in the fields of journalism and communication). The course also explores AI’s impacts on how we think about creativity, authorship, truth and authenticity. Students will have an opportunity to use a variety of generative AI tools to gain a better understanding of their abilities and limitations.

Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes:
Any course may be taken a number of times as long as there is a different letter designation each time it is taken. Not all Special Topics courses in Journalism are for liberal arts credit.
