CLL 047 - (LT) Africa, Greece, and RomeSemester Hours: 3 A survey of literary representations of Africa by African, Greek, and Roman writers from the time of Homer until the Arab conquests of the seventh century CE. This course will specifically examine how the intellectual tradition has sought to minimize Africa’s role in shaping ideas about classical Greece and Rome. The colonial narrative is one of marginalization, occlusion, and erasure, but this course will foreground intellectual endeavors that rehabilitate the African presence in the (re)creation of the classical past.
