FIN 206 - Financial Analysis and Planning Semester Hours: 3 This course focuses on the use of external financial statements for financial analysis and valuation. Principles of accounting and finance are integrated to assess company fundamentals. Emphasis will be placed on the interpretation of financial statements for the purpose of evaluating a company’s value by examining income, financing and investments. Financial datasets and spreadsheet software will be used to forecast earnings and evaluate risk. The impact of regulation on financial reporting and ethical concerns related to financial reporting will be discussed. Differences between GAAP and IFRS will be addressed. Pro forma financial statements will be constructed and applied in the financial planning process. The impact of globalization, political, and legal/regulatory, and sustainability/ESG issues on financial analysis and valuation will be discussed. Risks related to financial analysis and valuation will be emphasized.
