DPT 511 - Research Methods for Physical Therapists: Design and Statistics


Semester Hours: 3
This course is designed to provide entry level physical therapy students the fundamentals of research design and methods, literature review, data collection, statistical analysis and results with reference and application to physical therapy practice, evidenced based practice. The course will cover quantitative and qualitative research, research design, reliability and validity, specificity, sensitivity, descriptive statistics, statistical inference, test for experimental comparison, correlation, regressions, nonparametric tests, single subject design.  The course introduces students with evidence-based practice concepts that integrate the best available research evidence with clinical expertise and patient’s/client’s unique values and circumstances. The course emphasizes better understanding, reviewing, analyzing, and critically evaluating the literature, examining physical therapy practice.

Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes:
Open only to students enrolled in the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program. May not be taken on a Pass/Fail basis.
