DPT 545 - Clinical Integration V: Specialized Internship Semester Hours: 3 A specialized internship is the fifth of five clinical full-time supervised clinical experiences. Specialized Internship consists of six (6) weeks of full-time clinical internship in a clinical environment. This clinical internship is designed to develop the student’s clinical competence in a variety of clinical settings with diverse patients and advanced skills in the area of interest. The Director of Clinical Education will choose the clinical setting with input from the student to complement the previous assignments to ensure the breadth of preparation necessary for general practice as a physical therapist or to develop in-depth preparation in a specialty area and competency and advanced skills in the specialty area. Students may be placed in a specialized clinical setting or may choose to repeat one of their early clinical rotations. Students are required to have a full caseload by the end of this clinical internship with feedback on very complex patient conditions and rare cases. Students are expected to fully participate in all aspects of the physical therapist’s scope of practice, including direct patient care, documentation, consultation, education, critical inquiry, and administration in the clinical setting. Perform as an entry-level physical therapist upon completion of this clinical experience.
