CHEM 001 - (NS) Introduction to ChemistrySemester Hours: 3 Fall, Spring
An introductory study of the fundamental principles of chemistry. Topics include the classification of matter, the periodic table, atomic theory, nomenclature, chemical reactions and molecular structures. Problem-solving and metacognition skills for success in future STEM courses are a primary focus. The accompanying laboratory provides hands-on experience with basic chemical techniques, measurements, data analysis, and experiments that illustrate and reinforce lecture concepts. Recommended for students who either did not take high school chemistry or earned a grade of C or below in high school chemistry, or for students who need more preparation to succeed in CHEM 003A. (2 hours lecture, 2 hours recitation and laboratory.)
Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes: Not for major or minor credit. Not a prerequisite for any CHEM course. May not be taken after successful completion of, or concurrently with, any higher numbered chemistry course.
