CSC 054 - Fundamentals of Data Communications and NetworkingSemester Hours: 3 Spring
Introduction to data communications and networking. History, evolution, and current trends. Hardware issues include signals, media, terminals, communications backbones, and transmission methods. Protocols, including Open Systems Interconnection, TCP/IP, LANs, WANs, client-server and peer-to-peer, secure communications. Structure of the Internet: protocols, services, the World Wide Web. Course requirements include homework exercises, a research paper on a topic of interest, and a presentation of findings.
Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes: CSC 050 . May not be taken on a Pass/D+/D/Fail basis. (Formerly Fundamentals of Data Communications.)
