ENGG 081 - Bioengineering and Physiology: Mechanisms, Disease, and Medical InnovationSemester Hours: 3 Spring
This course examines physiological systems and the pathologies that affect them, with a focus on cardiovascular, respiratory, nervous, renal, and endocrine function. Engineering principles are applied to biomechanics, transport phenomena, heat transfer, biomaterials, biocontrol, and bioinstrumentation. Topics also include medical innovations such as artificial organs, drug delivery, neuroprosthetics, and tissue engineering. Students will complete an oral presentation and written report. Open to bioengineering, biology, and pre-medicine majors. (3 hours lecture.)
Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes: BIOL 112 , CHEM 003A, PHYS 11A and MATH 071 . Credit given for this course or BIOL 137 , not both.
