HIST 116 - (HP) Black Health, Trauma, and ResistanceSemester Hours: 3 Periodically
This course will provide in-depth engagement with the experiences of Black people in the United States, exploring themes of health, trauma, resistance, and healing. Students will engage with various topics, including disenfranchisement, the Jim Crow Era, the Great Migrations, New Deal politics, and the Reproductive Justice Movements from the Progressive Era to the twenty-first century. By the end of the course, students will have a sophisticated understanding of how Black individuals challenged white supremacist ideas and systemic racism by (re)defining liberty and freedom through centering Black resistance and upliftment strategies.
Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes: Credit given for this course or AFST 116 , not both. (Formerly AFAM - African-American History, 1865 to the Present.)
