MUSB 150 A-Z - Special Topics in Music Business

Each semester, MUSB offers special topics courses focusing on music business. These courses focus on current topic related to music business trends.

Current Special Topics:

MUSB 150A - Careers in the Music Industry

This course introduces students to the careers, pathways, and structures of today’s music industry through lectures, discussions, case studies, and hands-on projects. Students will gain an in-depth understanding of key roles across the ecosystem—including artists, producers, managers, publicists, music supervisors, and booking agents—while examining the evolving landscape of digital media, streaming, and entrepreneurship. Through guest speakers and the Decoded Speaker Series, students will engage directly with industry perspectives, explore current trends, and develop practical tools for career readiness, including networking strategies, resume creation, and professional skill-building. Students will also critically analyze the cultural and economic forces shaping music today while reflecting on their own potential career trajectories and strategies for building sustainable careers.

MUSB 150C - Primary Wave and War: Catalog Marketing

This course will cover many aspects surrounding War’s prestigious and long-lived career in the music industry. Weekly lectures will feature special guests who will speak on various topics specific to their role with War. Students will promote a track from the forthcoming anniversary release of the War album on various digital platforms.

Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes:
Course may be repeated when topics vary and students may register for multiple courses within this numbering scheme. Specific titles and course descriptions for special topics courses are available in the online class schedule

Not for Liberal Arts Credit.
