NUR 131L - Adult Gerontological Nursing and Care of Elder Patients with Chronic Disease (Lab)Semester Hours: 0 This companion lab course provides students with hands-on experience and skill development necessary for safe, effective, and compassionate nursing care of adult and older adult populations across the continuum of care. Building upon foundational nursing competencies, the lab focuses on the application of clinical judgment, procedural proficiency, and communication techniques that support the physiological and psychosocial integrity of adults experiencing acute and chronic health conditions. Students will engage in simulated and supervised clinical scenarios that mirror real-world complexities of adult-gerontology care, including medication administration, wound care, mobility assistance, and management of complex comorbidities. Emphasis is placed on risk reduction, health promotion, patient safety, and collaborative care planning. Through skill refinement and reflective practice, learners will develop confidence in their ability to assess, intervene, and evaluate outcomes for diverse adult patients while fostering cultural sensitivity, respect for aging individuals, and ethical decision-making. The lab reinforces the nurse’s role in managing care transitions, supporting activities of daily living, and promoting functional independence across adult life stages.
