PR 132 - Women in Sports: Strategic Storytelling and Brand CommunicationSemester Hours: 3 This course examines strategic communication in contemporary women’s sports through a cultural and media lens. Emphasis is placed on strategic storytelling, digital media relations, and branded communication practices used to promote female athletes and women’s sports leagues.
Through lectures, readings, and applied assignments, students will engage critically with the intersection of gender, media, and strategic communication to develop the skills necessary to shape meaningful, equity-centered narratives within the evolving landscape of women’s sports.
Students will analyze the construction of authentic athlete narratives and explore purpose-driven values such as empowerment, triumph, challenge, and equity. The course also investigates the impact of brand collaborations and the Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) movement on the women’s sports industry and popular culture.
