Fall, Spring
Designed to provide students with a general orientation to the counseling profession
and the therapeutic process. Counselor role and responsibilities including legal
and ethical implications involved in practice are explored. Major theoretical
models of counseling and their application in different settings and with culturally
diverse populations are examined. Students engage in self-awareness and counseling
microskills development activities as part of their training in intervention techniques
and the helping processes.
Prerequisites & Notes One course from each of the following areas: child psychology, adolescent psychology
and personality theory.
