LYST 245 - Revaluing Readers and Writers January
In this course, the construct of learning disability is critically examined in
terms of its social contexts and the cultural space in which it operates. This
course embraces social, linguistic and transactional views of reading and writing,
language, learning, teaching, and how curriculum and “normality” shape our responses
to those perceived as “struggling.” This course addresses the following strands:
revaluing students who struggle with reading and writing; strategies for supporting
and scaffolding meaning-making processes; and the nature of reading and language.
Prerequisites & Notes Completion of Phase I courses. (Formerly READ 251. Teaching Reading to the Learning
