HIST 178 - Special Studies in History: History of the Supreme Court

Semester Hours: 3
The student will follow the development of the Supreme Court from a body which its first Chief Justice – New York’s John Jay – felt would never have an important impact on American life to one of the major judicial institutions of all time. The ability of the Course to achieve consensus in the face of constant change, to both guide and mirror the development of the nation, will be considered in the context of the history of our diverse society. Major cases and personalities will be covered with an emphasis on revealing how the Court changed with the times and the time changed with the Court.
