HPG 4 - Human ValuesSemester Hours: 1
This course is divided into three sections around themes involving
human values, self-knowledge and truth. In the first section
considerable time is given to the analysis of the ethic of caring and
relation to other values, and comparison and contrast with the ethic of
justice. The second section is devoted primarily to an analysis
of some aspects of the historical separation of mind and body,
particularly as revealed in recent developments in medical
science. The third section will consist of selected readings
bearing upon the search for, and foundations of, knowledge and truth,
as provided by recent breakthroughs in modern science. Attempts
will be made to show interrelationships between and among the three
major topics considered.
