ENGL 190J - Forties CultureSemester Hours: 3 This course examines the cultural products of the 1940s in the United
States against the background of the history of that decade. It looks
at how these artworks mirrored changing American policy, both with
respect to the Soviet Union and in foreign affairs as well as on the
domestic front. We will, look at how the socially involved literature
of the 30s morphed into the uninvolved literature of Existentialism,
for example, Bellows’ The Victim.
