ECO 170 - Science, Technology and Economic Development

This course studies how advances in scientific and technological knowledge influence global economic development. Students review international patterns of economic convergence and divergence, and the characteristics and development of national systems of innovation. Analyzing processes of diffusion of scientific and technological knowledge, the course emphasizes their relation to developing countries’ prospects for catching up with advanced economies. Public policies promoting the growth of national technological capabilities in developing regions are examined through case studies.
